Kate Wesolowski is looking forward to a wonderful summer as Director of Camp Wiyaka. The 2012 season was Kate’s Directorial debut at Camp Wiyaka, but she is no newcomer to camp, having worked on staff there from 1999 through 2004 progressing from tent counselor up to Program Director by her final year. Kate also comes from a family with a distinguished Wiyaka history. Her grandmother, Estelle Anderson, was Wiyaka’s Cook for many years in the 1960’s. Estelle’s children, Margaret (Kate’s mother), Karen, and Rick, accompanied her at Camp, and her husband “Andy” would come to visit (and fix or create things for camp) every day after work and on weekends.

Kate has over 15 years experience working with youth and families in a variety of settings. After graduating from Westfield State College, where she acquired a degree in mathematics and has completed the coursework for certification in secondary education, Kate worked for the Walt Disney Company in an assortment of positions for over 7 years. The majority of Kate’s time working for the Walt Disney Company was spent at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort as a Recreation Coordinator. Kate also spent time as a teacher for Nature’s Classroom where she taught outdoor education to children in grades 4 – 7 at a camp inConnecticut. The Nature’s Classroom program is created for schools to attend week-long sessions to learn science, nature, math, and teambuilding – all presented in fun, clever ways.

While not atCampWiyaka, Kate works at the Athol Area YMCA preparing for the upcoming camp season as well as running some of the Y’s children and family programs.
